We’d like to share an update about:

  • The approval of the Accommodation Plan for the 2025-26 school year
  • The Out of Boundary Request process for Elizabeth Ziegler families

Approved Accommodation Plan for 2025-26 School Year

We’re pleased to share that the proposed Accommodation Plan we shared with families last week, received approval from the Board of Trustees on Monday, April 7.

For the 2025-26 school year, current Elizabeth Ziegler Public School students will attend Sandowne Public School. This includes:

  • Full Day Kindergarten
  • Grade 1 to Grade 6 Regular track (core French)
  • Grade 2 to Grade 6 French immersion

This approach will not use the school within a school model and students will be registered at Sandowne PS and be part of the Sandowne School Community.

Transportation to Sandowne Public School will be provided to students residing within the current Elizabeth Ziegler Public School boundary for the duration of the temporary accommodation plan. For those students who attend Elizabeth Ziegler and are Out of Boundary there will be a daily bus pick up at or near Elizabeth Ziegler Public School to transport them to Sandowne Public School. More information is outlined below.

This decision allows Elizabeth Ziegler students the opportunity to remain together at one school.

Student Transportation in 2025-26 for Elizabeth Ziegler PS Students

Students Living Within the 2024-25 Elizabeth Ziegler PS Boundary

Transportation to Sandowne PS will be provided to students attending Elizabeth Ziegler as of April 15, 2025, residing within the 2024-2025 Elizabeth Ziegler boundary. Siblings of Elizabeth Ziegler students who register after April 15, 2025, may also attend Sandowne with transportation. For example, this would include a student starting Junior Kindergarten in September 2025 with a sibling attending Elizabeth Ziegler on April 15, 2025.

Opting Out of Transportation

Students who opt out of riding the bus must provide their own transportation to Sandowne. Please note: Students may not be picked up and dropped off in the school parking lot, and motorists must obey all signs on municipal roads.

Students Living Outside the 2024-25 Elizabeth Ziegler PS Boundary

To be eligible for transportation to Sandowne PS, students residing outside of the Elizabeth Ziegler boundary must provide the school with an address within the Elizabeth Ziegler boundary to be used as the pick up and drop off location (e.g., 90 Moore Ave S, Waterloo – Elizabeth Ziegler PS – the address will be confirmed once the pick up point has been determined).

Out of Boundary Requests for the 2025-26 School Year

Elizabeth Ziegler Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 students (current students as of April 15, 2025) may apply to transfer to another WRDSB school. This transfer would be effective September 2025. The following application process applies:

  • Families must submit an Out of Boundary request form (IS-20-A) to the Elizabeth Ziegler PS office by April 23, 2025
  • Request forms can identify up to three schools for consideration
  • Families will be notified in early May 2025 if the requested schools have space to accept students

Please note: Transportation to out of boundary schools will not be provided unless the eligibility criteria outlined in Board Policy 4009 – Student Transportation are met.
