The last few weeks we have kept our students inside for some of our outdoor nutrition breaks, and some days we have also had them come inside as they arrive before the regular bell. We make these decisions based on information that we receive from sources such as Environment Canada and the University of Waterloo Weather Station. When the windchill is greater than -20 degrees and based on the parameters of our school site (example: icy grounds, open, windy areas), WRDSB policy recommends that we keep students inside. Windchill warnings can mean that exposed skin can freeze in a matter of minutes, so as always, our students’ health and safety is our main concern, and we make our decisions accordingly.

It is always our goal for our students to get outside for fresh air and exercise, but in the cases of extreme weather, we make arrangements for an indoor break time.
